STATEMENT OF INTENT:

My objective in this film is to create short, engaging and frightening opening scenes. My opening is for both genders boys and girls as it is a problem that happens everyday and which the two genders would be entertained. Since the opening is very intense, my purpose is that the audience gets attracted from the beginning and furthermore wants to continue watching. My target audience can feel identified with my film as it is a 20 year old girl coming from university like she does everyday which the audience can relate with normal life activity.  She then feels that she is being chased, this immediately shows something wrong is going to happen as the audience can perceive something does not fit in.

As I chose a Horror film my main goal is to entertain the audience, in different parts of my opening scenes different emotions can be discovered. For example when she looks back to see if there is someone,, but there is not, although she is able to hear it. This shows different emotions such as confusion, tension and panic towards the girl. Another thing to take in account is that as I chose a Horror genre I need to maintain the audience engaged. This is why my opening scene starts very powerful and with a constant panic feeling.

With this film I want to transmit an essential message to the audience, as in the film we are able to see how an innocent girl is coming home and feels as if she is being chased. This is an everyday problem and with this film I want the audience to see that nobody deserves this to happen and that everyone has to be aware that this happens.

It is true that in the film I have introduced this problem as the girl being chased by an unknown figure which builds up tension, but this is not saying it doesn't happen the other way round, it is just saying that it is more common to see it as the girl being chased. As the problem can affect the two genders this is aimed for both. My film is targeted towards a 16 and above audience as it is a horror film and little children would not understand it and could affect them as more or less is the age where people start to go out independently.

In my film I have introduced many techniques to get the audience engaged. My entire film has been filmed in a dark ambience as my purpose is making a horror film which really scares the audience. This is why when she is going out of the metro station it is late at night where there are less people in the street. Also the colour palette in my film represents something bad is going to happen as the girl is wearing black clothes which are associated with horror. Also the fact that she is walking alone expresses loneliness as she is not going to be able to defend  and is also a way of showing it is a scary film. The sound effects added when she enters the house, the effect of the floor cracking while she is walking also makes the audience feel tension as the first thing they are going to think is that someone is inside.
